This business in Campbell, California needed both group and individual portraits of all 12 employees. We did all photos twice – both indoors near the company logo in the lobby, and outside in the courtyard. After the portraits, I shot some lifestyle / candid photos of some of the employees having a meeting in the conference room. For being “real” people and not actors, they all did an impressive job! Here’s a few selects from the shoot:

I don’t consider myself a product photographer, but I’m up to the occasional challenge – and shooting jewelry is a special kind of challenge indeed! I have a client in Los Altos that specializes in high end estate jewelry, and shoot for her a couple times per year. Here’s a few photos from our most recent product photography session.

I don’t usually involve props in my shoots, but I’m definitely not against them! For Danny’s senior portrait session, he wanted to include a couple things that are very important to him – his trusty dog, and the antique woody he restored with his dad’s help over the last couple years. Also, we shot at a new location for me – Davenport Landing Beach – near, you guessed it, Davenport, California. When I arrived, I saw a few people wind sailing out on the choppy water – a sure sign that it was going to be really breezy (my least favorite weather attribute for photo shoots). Luckily, Danny’s mom was happy to be my lighting assistant, keeping my whole setup from blowing over with the first gust of wind (thanks Mom!). After taking a few photos with the pup and old car, we explored the beach a little bit before wrapping things up. Here’s my favorites photos from the shoot, enjoy!

Di and Eric had a last minute schedule change to their engagement shoot at Lover’s Point – the weather has been changing from day to day, and they wanted to “lock it in” on a good day – and I’m so glad they did! We lucked out with only a light breeze and non-goosebumpy temperature, which is not typical at this time of year in Monterey and Pacific Grove. We met at the grassy park at Lover’s Point, and they were like “Do with us as you will, we have no idea what we’re doing” – Ha! Well that’s pretty much most people, but I’m always glad to put on my director’s cap to lead a couple through an engagement session. I should hand out certificates at the end, qualifying each client for some kind of basic modeling gigs in the future 🙂 We explored the park area, getting those nice, shapely coastal trees in some of the shots (and trying to avoid composing shots with other people in the background); and of course we took some photos on the beach, climbed some rocks, and walked among some really pretty lavender flowers. It always amazes me how quickly two hours goes by, I guess I’m always having fun! Here’s some of my favorites from Di and Eric’s engagement shoot, feel free to comment below.

These are some on-location head shots for Silego Technology in Santa Clara. They needed some portraits of their executives – and they needed to be done quickly. After I set up a few lights in an empty conference room, we were ready to go – a couple minutes per person and we were done! Not too shabby!

This small office wanted to update their website with new photos of the staff – both as a group and individuals. The front of the office building is impressive, with lots of glass – I didn’t edit myself or the lighting equipment out of the shot below, just to show the basic setup. Great group of people, I love making small businesses look as professional as possible.

Antoinette and Michael’s wedding is mere weeks away, and since they live in Southern California we didn’t have too many opportunities to shoot their engagement session. The weather ended up being pretty windy, but clear – and they had their friend’s lakefront property in Watsonville to use as needed. I started out easy on the couple with a few walking shots, and what more natural walkway than the covered raspberry rows on the property? After that I busted out the big lights that help me achieve that signature studio/magazine style I’m known for. Yes, it takes more effort, and is pretty much the opposite of natural light shooting, but I manage to incorporate both throughout a typical engagement session – and theirs was no different. The standout feature on the property were the tall green grasses and blooming wildflowers. But more than that – this great-looking couple really made my job that much easier. Antoinette is a fashion-savvy, gorgeous woman, and Michael rocked the short-trim beard and outfit recommendations from his fiancée 🙂 I really enjoyed my time with this couple, and am looking forward to their huge wedding in the same area next month. Below are my favorite photos from their engagement session, please feel free to comment at the bottom, I’d love to hear from you!

These head shots were taken for a Canadian company with a satellite office here in Santa Cruz. Since most of the portraits were shot in Canada, they had pretty specific lighting / posing / background requirements for the photos. Luckily the local office had plenty of room to work with. These two executives were great to work with, and we were in and out within 30 minutes – easy for everyone.

When I got an email from Laura at 2:37am saying “It’s my birthday and I’d like to get some photos taken” – I honestly didn’t expect it to pan out. But surprise surprise, it was a legit inquiry and Laura really did want to have a portrait session later that day. Oh, and she’d be bringing a few family members along. We agreed to meet at Nisene Marks, a gorgeous redwood forest in Aptos. Laura and her family were SO nice, and I loved all the colorful outfits they brought along. I decided to do the group photos up front, and finish the rest of the session with Laura alone (with a few outfit changes). Laura is not afraid of the camera, so we experimented with locations and poses, having a lot of fun along the way. Below are some of my favorite photos while shooting in the woods with Laura and fam, enjoy!

This small graphic design and branding studio wanted some fun staff portraits for their new website. So, they found an old, red couch, a vacant residential lot, and gathered a few props for this weekday morning photo shoot in Menlo Park. Is this concept completely original? Of course not – but it’s fun, a little off-the-wall, and goes to show that working with this creative, fun group of talented individuals is gonna be anything but a snorefest. Here’s the collages I created from their individual sessions:

These guys used to live in this San Francisco neighborhood, so we explored all around – the Embarcadero park, ferry building, piers, random buildings and structures. There’s so much to see in the city; the textures and structures and different qualities of light are a photographer’s dream. They really wanted a great night shot of the two of them with the Bay Bridge in the background all lit up. When I’d arrived earlier in the day, I’d driven down Harrison St. and took note of the fabulous oblique view of the bridge from that location. It was a bit of a walk at the end of the session, but well worth it as you’ll see below.
Please feel free to comment at the bottom, I’d love to hear from you.

Just a quick sneak peek for A+P’s engagement shoot tonight in San Francisco – the first is a wide shot of the couple at Embarcadero Center, the second is a night shot in the middle of the street on Harrison St. with a beautiful view of the Bay Bridge in the background. Enjoy, and stay tuned for more!

Uyen and John are an incredibly sweet couple, I really got to know them during their Gray Whale Cove engagement shoot a couple months ago. Fast forward to today – a very long day – but filled with so many moments of happiness and gratitude. Along for the ride was my associate Brian MacStay, who was fresh off a wedding from the night before, and up and at ’em right with me at 7am this Saturday morning (thanks Brian!!). While Brian hung out with John and his groomsmen, I was chillin’ with the bride at her mom’s place in San Jose. Preparations were already underway for the Vietnamese Tea Ceremony that would take place in the now-cleared living room. It was about to get seriously packed! I busied myself with detail shots of the Uyen’s dress, rings, shoes, and all the other details – plus the usual getting ready candid coverage.
John and family arrived after an hour or so, and the Tea Ceremony commenced – it’s been a while since I’ve shot one of these, but it’s a really neat cultural tradition where the bride and groom kneel before important family members and serve them tea in exchange for well-wishes, advice, and gifts. It was an emotional event, but not the last ceremony to be had that day. After a few family portraits indoors, and some big group shots in the back yard, we were off to the Japanese Tea Gardens in San Jose for the non-denominational wedding ceremony in the park.
It had been raining all week, but the sun was out in full force now, giving us absolutely perfect weather for outdoor festivities. Uyen looked stunning in her wedding dress as her mom walked her through the trees and down the aisle (did I mention this was dress #2 of 3?). I focused on the “safe” shots during the ceremony while Brian got some really great creative compositions (which he did throughout the day). After the wedding, we got all the bridal party and family formals done, with plenty of time afterwards to explore the gardens with John and Uyen for their bride and groom portraits.
The reception was held at Mayflower Seafood Restaurant in Milpitas, colorfully lit and hosted by an engaging DJ that kept things lively and fun. The guests ate at least ten courses of food – I honestly don’t know where they were putting it. A little dancing, lots of mingling, laughter and karaoke ensued. 16 hours from beginning to end – I was beat at the end, but excited to go through the many, many great photos I knew Brian and I captured.
Here’s my favorite photos from Uyen and John’s wedding. Feel free to comment below!

Christie is a professional personal assistant, and needed some new portraits for her business endeavor. We opted for the privacy of an outdoor shoot in a “hidden” location. It was a windy day, but luckily we were pretty protected where we were. The sun was coming out and hiding behind clouds the whole time, so we got a nice variety of bright and dark backdrops for these portraits. Here’s my favorite photo from Christie’s business headshot session:

Luckily, I love it! Tony needed some updated portraits for his real estate company – here’s a couple of my faves:
