Stephanie and Owen wanted their maternity photos taken in the forest, so I suggested the beautiful redwoods in Nisene Marks, located in Aptos. We drove a couple miles in, parked, and proceeded to walk around, stopping here and there to get some cute photos of this lovely couple. Stephanie is due in a less than a month, and I’m already booked to do their newborn photos – can’t wait! Here’s some of my faves from the shoot, more at www.GoodEyePhotography.com.

The Old Whaling Station in Monterey is a beautiful historical property – the kind you drive by all the time without knowing you’ve passed it by. When I arrived early on Ly and Scott’s wedding day, I scoped out the grounds as usual since it was my first time there. There’s the main building, of course, but the grounds around the property ooze history. There’s some well-established trees that look really neat that I knew I would try to use. I think the building next door is the oldest brick building in California (or something like that). Ly and Scott had their getting ready and ceremony here, but the reception was at the American Legion building in Marina, California. Ly and Scott have been together since forever, but they’ve still got that flame going strong, and I think all their friends and family were really excited to see them make it official. Congrats guys, my faves from your wedding are below!

Crystal and Ben were an absolute joy to work with during their engagement photography session at Fiztgerald Marine Reserve in Moss Beach. Not only does Ben have awesome hair and Richard Gere-ish good looks, but he plays the guitar too – nice catch, Crystal! She’s a runner, full of smiles, and has a witty and sassy charm that’s only accentuated by her colorful style. She’s the yang to his ying, and they truly bring out the best in each other. Oh, and the chemistry – I don’t know if there’s something about this location, but the steam is always turned up with my couples here. It was easy to direct and shoot, and I think we all had a wonderful time in the process. Here’s my faves below, be sure and check out www.GoodEyePhotography.com for more.

Tania and Michael are one of those couples that have natural chemistry, and seem to know what the other is thinking. Tania tends to have this little smile on her face, like there’s always a private joke she’s sharing with her significant other. The first time I really spent some quality time with these two was during their Fitzgerald Marine Reserve engagement session up in Moss Beach. It was freezing cold, breezy, and therefore Tania didn’t take much coaxing to cuddle up with Michael. Even though the elements were working against us, they braved the weather and helped me get some amazing photos – and we were rewarded at sunset with a beam of sunlight shooting through the trees for some truly unforgettable photos. I felt like Indiana Jones when he’s in the Egyptian underground map room, and strikes the staff down in the ground, the sunlight cresting through the window and lazering through the gem at the top. These guys have a passion that’s focused in on each other like this, so I was honored to shoot their wedding at the incomparable private retreat called Nestldown, tucked away in the Santa Cruz mountains. There were some true characters at this wedding, but as gregarious as they were, Tania and Michael were the standout people in this story. I spotlighted some of my favorite photos of the day that I feel capture the spirit of the event. I hope you enjoy them.

There are quite a few private estates that host weddings in the Santa Cruz mountains, and Rancho Soquel is a hidden gem among them. The property is vast, with well designed regions that give any bride tons of options for her wedding day. Jamie got a whole little house to herself as a bridal suite to get ready in, while Matt and the guys hung out at the bocce ball court a few minute’s walk away. These guys had some really neat wedding details – Matt, an avid surfer, decorated a surfboard that invited everyone to sit wherever they wanted. The Jewish ceremonial chuppa was built from large branches and decorated with hanging, colorful bottles. The natural wildflowers strung throughout the decor added splashes of color that stood out against the natural setting of the estate. I really enjoyed exploring the property with Jamie and Matt, finding little nooks and pathways to shoot. And the barn provides an idyllic country backdrop like no other. Enjoy my favorite photos from the wedding day below!

Lacy and Dustin met me on the concrete bridge at the entrance to Henry Cowell State Park in Felton for their engagement photo shoot. They were both rockin’ the monotone palette with just a splash of Giant’s orange on Dustin’s kicks. We explored the creek, the dirt pathways, hidden groves, and golden fields over the course of 90 minutes. Check out some of my favorite photos below, more to see at www.GoodEyePhotography.com.

It had been several years since I’d shot a wedding at Monarch Cove Inn – a lovely little venue overlooking the ocean in Capitola, California; so of course I was elated when Molly told me I was her top choice of the photographers she’d interviewed. There are separate suites on the property for the guys and gals to get ready separately – thankfully the bridal suite has tons of room to spread out, as there’s usually plenty of wedding collateral on a typical Big Day. The ceremony spot is simply stunning – a green lawn with old sycamores behind, and the blue ocean beyond. The reception is held on an elevated deck with the same great views of the ocean – and can accommodate a big tent if the weather is iffy. In Molly and Zak’s case, they opted for the tent, even though it ended up being really nice out. Molly was a gorgeous bride, and I had so much fun hiking into the little woodsy area with them to capture some great bride and groom portraits in the redwood grove. Below are my favorites from the wedding, enjoy!

I was a little curious why Jullia and Ryan wanted their engagement photos shot at their apartment complex – I mean, an apartment complex? But when I pulled into this palatial community, I could see how the architecture and landscaping made for a really great location for photography. Since we shot during the week while everyone was ostensibly at work, we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Jullia and Ryan really wanted to include their pup Spice in a few of the photos, so I made sure we did those first. I love shooting at new locations, it really keeps me on my toes – and these guys were really great to work with. Below are some of my favorite photos from their e-session, there’s plenty more to check out at www.GoodEyePhotography.com.

We here at GoodEye Photography + Design believe that love is love, and marriage is a flexible institution that should support individuals of the same gender (and thankfully the Supreme Court agrees). We shoot weddings in the San Francisco Bay Area, and are located in Santa Cruz – so if you’re looking for a photographer to document your gay OR straight wedding, look no further. We love to capture love between humans, and are LGBT friendly for casual portraits, engagements and weddings. If you’re looking for a gay-friendly wedding photographer in Santa Cruz, or anywhere in the Bay Area and beyond, check out GoodEye Photography – you won’t be disappointed.
Kelsey and her family were visiting Santa Cruz for the first time in many years, so they decided to visit one of their favorite old haunts to get some senior portraits (and a few family photos) of their daughter Kelsey at Natural Bridges. It was fun getting to know the family a little and capture some great photos of everyone along the way. Natural Bridges has a great variety of locations to shoot at – golden fields, groves of sycamore trees, a pond, and of course the beach, which I always save for last. Below are my favorite photos, there’s many more to see at www.GoodEyePhotography.com.

It’s been several years since I shot a wedding at the historical Sesnon House; it’s on the Cabrillo College property, and literally one mile from my house. I’m so used to traveling for weddings it’s a guilty pleasure to have one practically in my back yard. Peggy and Roger are like kindred spirits to me – I knew what they wanted, and we just clicked. They set me free to do my thing, and let the magic happen. From getting ready at Seascape Resort to dancing like crazy in the old house, I felt like I was in my element, unable to take a bad photo. I’d like to share my favorite candid (and posed!) shots below–enjoy!

This was actually my first time meeting Stefan and Jennifer as they booked their wedding with me over the phone. They drove all the way up from their home in Visalia for today’s engagement shoot. We were going to shoot at the beach, but it was just so ridiculously windy – and rescheduling was not an option given the distance they had to drive, so the next best option was to go inland! Henry Cowell is a lovely state park in Felton, nestled in the Santa Cruz mountains. The weather was agreeable, and Stefan and Jennifer were dressed and ready to go. Although they aren’t used to being on the business end of the camera (Stefan is a photographer himself), I thought they did quite well! Here’s a few of my favorites from their e-session, with more to see at www.GoodEyePhotography.com.

Molly and Zak found me just in the nick of time for their wedding this month, and although an engagement shoot wasn’t originally on their radar, I practically insisted we try to sneak one in for all the side benefits – a low-key practice session to get some great casual portraits, find out what does and doesn’t work, and of course a way to build confidence for what’s possible on the actual wedding day! Although incredibly foggy at Moss Beach, there wasn’t any wind so it was actually quite pleasant to shoot. Zak and Molly were totally down to be “putty in my hands,” so I truly took the mission to heart. The fog made me see this location in new light, which really opened up opportunities I hadn’t seen before. These two lovebirds have a great connection with each other, so it really wasn’t hard to do my thing with them. Below are some of my favorite photos from their engagement session, there’s more to see at www.GoodEyePhotography.com.
