This was my first wedding up at Forest House Lodge in Foresthill, CA – it’s about 45 minutes away from Auburn, straight up into the hills. The lodge itself is classy-rustic, with lots of delightful surprises inside. It has an amazing downstairs area for the bridal party to get ready at and hang out – the specifics of which the venue asks photographers to remain a secret. So brides, you just have to go there and see for yourself! Paige and Dwayne are totally awesome – laid back and ready to party. They’re quite country, too – I guess the hunting camouflage at their engagement was a good hint 🙂
The ceremony was a short drive into the forest – and it had the most amazing backdrop of a forested valley. Truly a big selling point for this venue. After the ceremony and family pictures at that lovely spot, we all headed back to the lodge for the partying to begin. Some great speeches and lively dancing capped of the night. Below are my most favorite photos that I feel tell the story of the day. Enjoy!

This was my third family shoot with these guys in about as many years, and it’s so awesome to witness families grow. I feel like I hit all the high points in peoples’ lives – weddings, graduations, babies, family reunions – it’s such a blessing, the best job in the world. Seb and Rocio wanted the old concrete boat in the background for their Christmas card this year, so we hit up Seacliff Beach at sunset – which happened to provide an amazing golden glow to our backdrop. And by the way, the background is NOT fake, as some people have deigned to call out – it’s the real deal, we promise 🙂 Enjoy some of my favorite photos from the session below.

I love exploring new locations for any shoot, and today’s engagement session with Ellen and John was practically in my back yard at the UCSC Arboretum! Now, since it’s November, nothing was really in bloom, and even the succulents looked like hibernating, but we meandered the expansive trails and found all kinds of nooks to explore. I always tell people my primary goal is to get great shots of the people – the background is secondary. Sure, an interesting backdrop can add drama and interest, but if you blow it with your main subject, who gives a damn about the rest of the photo. I had a wonderful time hanging out with Ellen and John, and I think we made some pretty great photos together! My faves below…

I was seriously humbled by this awesome couple – when they found out I was already booked on their wedding day, the changed their date so they could hire as their photographer! I mean, how crazy is that? Well needless to say I was pumped to do a great job for them at their Seascape Golf Club wedding. The weather started out super foggy, as it can often be here in Aptos – and since Thea loves the fog, we took advantage of it and took photos of her and the girls early in the day. Harry’s more of a sunny guy, and thankfully mother nature accommodated, the sun burning off the fog just in time for the guy shots. The outdoor ceremony started out sunny, then the mist came rolling back. It was like, “Who should I please right now?” We got some amazing bride and groom portraits among the ginormous sycamore trees, I was so happy to get some great photos of this deserving couple. The reception was held in the ballroom indoors, where dancing, laughter and tears ensued. Here are my favorite photos from Harry and Thea’s wedding day, enjoy!

It was great making the trip up to The Westin San Francisco again to see my contacts there, and work with Executive Chef John Hart to create these amazing new dishes. And by work with, I mean “bow down to his awesomeness, take a few photos, and taste the deliciousness of the new food items.” It didn’t take a whole lot on my part to help make the food look good enough to put a grumble in your tummy – I probably could’ve made iPhone photos that’d make you drool with such worthy fare to work with. Enough words, on to the pretty pictures. Stop by MaSo on 4th (in the Westin Hotel) if you want to taste these dishes yourselves.

The Monterey Plaza Hotel is truly a gem in downtown Monterey, and the ideal venue for your classy wedding. It’s a special place to Mike and Marianne, which is why they had to have their wedding there. The weather on this October day couldn’t have been more ideal for an outdoor wedding. These guys are super mellow and loving towards each other, and they were totally down for any and every idea I had. Because both their names start with M – M&M was a theme throughout the wedding as you’ll see in the photos below. One of my favorite parts of any wedding day is the bride and groom formals, and their wedding was no exception. The Plaza has a beautiful little private-ish beach, and the concrete walls of the old abandoned building next door have the most amazing texture for a backdrop. Enjoy my favorite photos that I feel tell the story of the day below!

I adore Alexis and Adam, they’ve got an amazing energy that’s infectious – everyone was smiling and dancing all day; and it’s no surprise that because they are really into dancing, many of the guests were highly skilled in the art as well. I wish the dance floor had been big enough to pull off some kind of mass flashmob-style dancing event, but alas we did the best we could with the 10 foot square space we had. I forgive Ondine, though, because their interior is very classy, and you can’t beat the view of the San Francisco Bay from their back patio –which, I might add, is the ideal location for wedding ceremonies. I had such fun with Alexis, Adam and friends/family – below are my absolute favorite photos that tell the story of the joy. Enjoy.

Until I met Pam and Bill, I didn’t even know that you could get married at Wagner’s Grove, which is a short hike up from Harvey West Park in Santa Cruz. It’s a lovely redwood grove, though, and it’s nice that you don’t have to go way up into the Santa Cruz mountains to access such natural beauty. Their ceremony was held in the grove, then everyone walked over to the clubhouse nearby for the reception. Below are my favorite photos from the day that I feel tell the story better than words can. Enjoy!

Most engaged couples planning their wedding in September here in the Bay Area do so with the relative assurance the weather will be simply amazing. And usually it is. But not this day, not at all. Even though it was absolutely pouring at Shakespeare Garden (inside Golden Gate Park in San Francisco), there were still as many smiles as there were umbrellas. OK, so the crowd had to stand instead of sit down – no biggie. And the musicians and the officiant and the bride and groom had to stand under hastily erected tents – worse things could happen. In the end, the knot was tied, and the photos were actually pretty amazing. And of course after the ceremony was over, the sun decided to come out and play – so Jesse, Nicole and I were able to explore the immediate area – mostly we stuck to the expansive music concourse / orchard, nestled between the de Young museum and California Academy of Sciences buildings. After that, they hopped in the back of my convertible mustang, and we drove over to the Cliff House restaurant, and got a few photos there from that epic, elevated view of the Pacific ocean below. The Rolls picked them up when we were done, and we all made our way to the Ocean Colony Club in Half Moon Bay for the reception. Oh, did I mention the theme of the wedding yet? Roaring 20s, baby – I LOVE it! If the pin-stripe suits, fedoras and swishy flapper dresses wasn’t a good indicator, the decor at the reception sealed the deal. I had a lot of fun with this couple, and I won’t spoil this post with any more words – on to the pictures!

Wow, we really lucked out with beautiful weather for Lisa and Tony’s wedding at The Perry House in Monterey. She was a beautiful, elegant bride, and Tony was all smiles from morning ’til night. Super fun to work with, and all the friends and family were so great. I had a fantastic time, and was stoked to eat a cake pop at a wedding – so good!! Here’s a sneak peek from the bride and groom portraits part of the day, stay tuned for more at www.GoodEyePhotography.com.

The Perry House is one of my favorite wedding venues to shoot at. It’s intimate, has lots of nooks and crannies for people to hang out in, they have multiple levels and patios, a killer bridal suite, an amazing view of the ocean, a nifty pizza oven – and most of all a staff that is great to work with and knows how to throw a party. Lisa and Tony are the perfect fit for this venue – they are so easygoing, fun, and photogenic! Shooting their wedding was like going to a party with friends, and the photography was just a natural extension of the day that just fell into place effortlessly. Here are my favorite photos below.
