Whenever I shoot family portraits at Pajaro Dunes in Watsonville, it’s usually a multi-family affair of three generations – grandma & grandpa at the apex along with their adult kids and respective families. I always try to shoot the large group photo first, especially when there’s little kids involved. You never know when they’ll break down and be done with the shoot. For this family portrait session, we got some great shots of everyone as well as a cousins shot and all the different groupings you can think of. It was an overcast morning on the beach, but I still brought my off-camera lighting gear for the smaller group shots – I find it is more flattering for everyone’s faces when I can control the light and shadow. But the candids and wide shots were 100% natural.
Below are some of my favorite photos from the family photography session, laid out album spread-style. Enjoy!
