I met this lovely couple a few weeks ago during our initial wedding consultation, and they wasted no time booking a date to get their engagement photos done. They are beach people, and it just so happens I live in a beach town – so it was a natural fit! We actually went up to Pescadero State Beach, which I’ve never really explored as it’s about 2/3 of the way from Santa Cruz to Half Moon Bay. We met about an hour-and-a-half before sunset where the freshwater river meets the ocean. It’s a beautiful location stocked with colorful rock cliffs, caves, natural bridges/tunnels, a real bridge, a rushing river and of course the beach – one of the biggest surprises were the beautiful orange and purple starfish that we saw everywhere (it must have been low-tide).
We scaled steep cliffs on our descent to the beach, and I was excited to discover Tim & Heather didn’t mind getting a little wet for the photos. At different points I actually had my lightstand submerged in rushing river water, balanced precariously on weathered dirt mounds, and even held at odd angles by Tim, who assisted me on the ring shots (thanks Tim!). I’m actually amazed I didn’t destroy any equipment during the course of this shoot.
Tim and Heather are on the quiet side, but adventurous in spirit and a natural couple. I may have forced them into some small, wet caves (for the shot, guys, for the shot!) and step into “quicksand” (seriously!), but they seemed more concerned about my own well-being than themselves – on second thought, perhaps they were worried about their photos getting submerged and destroyed, but I’ll just pretend it was bodily harm they were primarily concerned about.
Here’s my favorite photos from the shoot, set to a little Journey soundtrack – one of their favorite bands. Enjoy! And feel free to check out all 105 photos from Tim and Heather’s Engagement Session if you like!
