Portrait: Mitch Cutler, Owner of La Fondue in Saratoga
While busying myself with the Plumed Horse photo shoot, Mitch Cutler from La Fondue across the street came over to visit with his fellow restauranteur buddies. I’d never actually met Mitch before, but I’d shot at his restaurant’s old and new location several times. In fact, the photos gracing his website are pretty much all mine. “Oh, you’re Chris Shoemocker…” he proclaimed upon meeting me. Close enough 🙂
Anyways, we quickly inked a deal to do a quick (see: five minute) portrait session in exchange for a free dinner for my wife and I. If you’ve ever experienced La Fondue’s excellent food, service and decor, you’ll agree this was a fair trade indeed.
So after Plumed Horse was complete, I walked across the street, found a cool location in the shade with the La Fondue logo and water fountain in background, and found Mitch inside the restaurant. We proceeded to quickly snap off about 40 photos. After literally five minutes I told him it was a wrap. “How do you know?” he asked. “I just do,” I replied. When you’ve done something a thousand times, you don’t even have to look at the camera to know you’ve got the goods.
We talked for a while afterward about dogs, kids, values and life; Mitch is a great guy. I look forward to working with him in the future.
